how can i support you on your wellness journey?

I have over 20 years of professional knowledge, training and experience in the fields of Complementary Health, Yoga and working with Vulnerable People and those who experience severe Mental Health challenges.

I was introduced to various forms of Complementary Therapy in the mid 1990’s and found a combination of Aromatherapy, Acupuncture and Crystal Healing Therapy really supported, improved and had a positive impact on the physical and emotional health challenges I was experiencing at the time.

The personal efficacy I found of these healing therapies and witnessing positive impacts in others, initially led me to study Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage, gaining my Diplomas in these in 2000 and 2001. Whilst studying I worked in various supported accommodation settings for Vulnerable People and those experiencing Mental Health challenges. My career has spanned 18 years in this field, giving me extensive experience of what it is like to live with Mental Health, Housing, Health and Learning challenges.

I encountered Yoga in the early 2000’s and at the time I could not figure out why I kept going back to class. It wasn’t until years later when I deepened my practice and decided to study to teach, that all was revealed! I found Yoga gave me a greater connection to myself; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The physical practice moved and shifted energy in my body whilst also making it stronger, I found my resilience increasing, the capacity to deal with life’s ups and downs and stresses much easier and my compassion for others ever growing.

I gained my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate in 2016, after studying for a year under the guidance of Atma Gyanam in Norwich, Norfolk. I am also a qualified Crystal Healing Therapist, after gaining my Diploma with Esther Katz of the Spiritual Venturers Association in 2011. I love how this healing modality is intrinsically linked to the Earth, from where we source crystals and how their and our energies resonate, to bringing about a balanced state of being. I qualified as a Sound Healing Practitioner in December 2020 and am holding regular group Soundbaths as well as 1:1 Sound Healing Sessions. In November 2022 I completed a Teaching Yoga for Cancer course, so I am able to work 1:1 in a therapeutic way with those people who have a Cancer Diagnosis and most recently I have completed a 15 hour experiential course in Circle Facilitation with Juiia Davis of Finchley Yoga and Dr Tessa Venuti Sanderson who both run the organisation Circle Holding.

Whether you would like to gain greater strength and mobility in your physical body, have an increased ability to cope with life’s ups and downs or experience what deep, true and authentic healing really is; you can be assured that I will look after you with the utmost care and support you in positive ways to enhance your physical, mental and emotional wellness. I have deep empathy for people, taking an holistic approach by looking at what stage you are in your life, and what has contributed and impacted your story. At the core of Calm in the City is a genuine desire to support you and your evolvement.

“Rachel is a fabulous yoga teacher and human being. She makes classes accessible and enjoyable for all adapting to everyone's abilities and spending time ensuring everyone is practising safely and comfortably. Rachel's classes have given me the space and focus to cope with a busy career and I look forward to them every week.” Deb.

I just want to let you know how wonderful I think your Yoga Nidra sessions are.
My job, like many others, can be very stressful and the opportunity to take time to focus on myself and ‘switch off’ is a rare occurrence. The session itself is soothing and comforting, but it is the after affects which amaze me. I feel so relaxed and ‘floaty’ after the session. My shoulders drop about 2 foot! I feel happy. I feel ‘at peace’. I have slept for 12 hours straight after each session I’ve attended and I sleep well for up to a week afterwards. Rachel has a fantastic and empathetic personality. Her enthusiasm is infectious and I really look forward to her sessions.” Jenni.
